Dress code

What to wear

It’s late September in New York, and we’re making an occasion of the weekend. Friday starts with sunset drinks on the Hudson, while Saturday brings us to the West Village for dinner in Palma’s garden. Two settings and two moods make for a good excuse to get dressed.

Friday

Elevated by the Water

We’ll start the weekend outdoors at City Vineyard, with drinks overlooking the Hudson around sunset. The mood is polished and relaxed, made for a September evening in the city.

Midi and longer dresses, skirts, tailored trousers, elevated separates, and dark denim are all welcome. For men, trousers or dark denim with an open-collar shirt, knit, or jacket.

September can still be warm, but it gets breezy on the river once the sun goes down. Bring a light layer for later in the evening.

Saturday

Formal in the Garden

Saturday is the dressier night. Dinner is in Palma’s candlelit garden, tucked into an old West Village townhouse, and we’d love for the evening to feel as special as the setting.

For women, think midi, ankle-length, and floor-length dresses, with longer hemlines encouraged. Silk, satin, beautiful tailoring, and rich textures all work. For men, suits or jackets with trousers. Ties are optional.

No black tie or ball gowns required. The spirit is New York City elegant: sophisticated, personal, and dressed for a beautiful dinner.

A note on shoes

Palma’s garden has a brick floor, and the West Village may involve a little walking. Choose accordingly.
